A summary of the Feb. 12 meeting, made by an
attendee, follows.
- A
member was asking for anyone with experience from using a 423 pin to
478 pin CPU adapter. Nobody in the group had such
experience. If you have used one or heard from others about their
experience, let us know.
- A
member was getting an error code "Message #12 - Printer Open" on the
printer's display (HP LaserJet III). Another member thought he
might have access to some replacement parts.
- After
installing a Sony DRU-510, a user was unable to open bitmaps on the
computer. It was suggested that the accompanying software
included QuickTime, which has a tendency to take over a number of file
associations, and it was possible that this had happened. The
user was encouraged to try opening a bitmap file by opening Paint
first, and then opening the bitmap from the Paint application to
determine if this was a file association problem.
- A
member has a setup where a large amout of files must be downloaded
repeatedly and wanted to know if there was a way to download them
directly into a ZIP file. Two suggestions were made. The
first was to look for ZIP Magic or a similar ZIP utility that
integrates directly with Windows Explorer and presents ZIP files as if
they were normal folders on the system. The other was to enable
compression of the download target folder on the (Windows XP)
system. Both would provide savings through file compression.
- A
member was wondering how to be able to receive attachments in
Outlook. Due to the frequent spread of email viruses, several
types of attachments can no longer be accessed from Outlook after
applying the latest Microsoft security updates. The perils of
opening attachments were reiterated, and it was pointed out that there
were some plugins for Outlook (available on the internet) that will
relax or remove the restrictions. Also, it was pointed out that
exceptions could be established by modifying the registry.
